Alli is a lower-strength version of Orlistat (60mg) available as a Pharmacy (P) medicine in the UK meaning it doesn’t need a prescription, but can only be supplied after a suitability check by a pharmacist. It works the same way as prescription Orlistat 120mg (Xenical), just at a lower dose.
At Newmans Pharmacy on Barking Road, Plaistow, our pharmacist will assess whether Alli is appropriate for you and explain how to use it safely as part of a healthy weight management plan.

Alli is a “Pharmacy” medicine (P-Med), meaning it can only be supplied after a brief pharmacist assessment. This protects you by checking for medical conditions and drug interactions that could make Alli unsafe.
Alli should be taken for a maximum of 6 months at a time. If you haven’t lost weight after 12 weeks, treatment should be stopped.
In person is best, as our pharmacist can answer your questions face-to-face and check your suitability properly.
Yes. alli is designed to work alongside a reduced-calorie, lower-fat diet. To avoid “treatment effects” (such as oily spotting or urgent bowel movements), your daily fat intake should be limited to about 15g per meal and distributed evenly throughout the day. It is also recommended to take a multivitamin at bedtime, as alli can make it harder for your body to absorb certain fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K).
alli works by preventing about 25% of the fat you eat from being absorbed by your body. Instead of being stored, this fat passes through your system naturally. For best results, take one capsule with water three times a day with each meal containing a moderate amount of fat. If you skip a meal or the meal contains no fat, you should not take the dose.
