Wegovy

Wegovy Injections at Newmans Pharmacy, Plaistow

Wegovy is a once-weekly injectable weight loss medication containing semaglutide. It works by mimicking GLP-1, a natural hormone that regulates appetite, helping you feel fuller faster and reducing food cravings. Wegovy is licensed in the UK for weight management in adults who meet specific clinical criteria.

At Newmans Pharmacy on Barking Road, Plaistow, our weight loss clinic offers Wegovy to clinically appropriate patients, with full pharmacist support throughout your treatment journey.

How Wegovy Works

Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist. It mimics the natural hormone glucagon like peptide-1, which is released after eating. This hormone:

  • Signals to your brain that you’re full
  • Slows down the rate your stomach empties
  • Reduces cravings between meals
  • Combined with diet and exercise, this typically results in 10–15% body weight loss over 12–16 months in patients who tolerate the medication.

Frequently Asked Question

How is Wegovy different from Mounjaro?

Wegovy contains semaglutide and acts on GLP-1 receptors only. Mounjaro contains tirzepatide and acts on both GLP-1 and GIP receptors, often producing greater weight loss in clinical trials. Our pharmacist will help you choose the best option for you.

Often yes, without restarting at the lowest dose, if you have documentation of your current dose. Our pharmacist will review your records.

Pricing depends on the dose, which increases over time. Contact us for current pricing — we maintain transparent fixed pricing with no hidden consultation fees.

Wegovy contains Semaglutide, which mimics a hormone that targets areas of the brain that regulate appetite and food intake. It helps you feel fuller for longer, making it easier to stick to a calorie-controlled diet. It is typically prescribed for adults with a BMI of 30 or higher, or a BMI of 27 or higher if you have a weight-related health condition like high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes.

Wegovy is a once-weekly self-injection. To minimize side effects like nausea, the dose is gradually increased every 4 weeks. You start at 0.25mg for the first month, moving through 0.5mg, 1mg, and 1.7mg, until you reach the maintenance dose (typically 2.4mg or the new maximum of 7.2mg, depending on your clinical needs and tolerance).
